چکیده
Empirically, official multidimensional measures of poverty often show children to be the poorest age group. Such and their analysis can used directly inform policies reduce children’s multiple deprivations. This paper introduces methods produce national statistics on that child-focused anti-poverty policies. In doing so, it recognises importance parsimonious, consistent measures, given practical constraints such as policy makers’ time. The does not recommend constructing several disjoint which cannot straightforwardly interpreted alongside one another, these may create confusion or dilute attention. To a compact high-information measurement platform, four strategies have been uncover policy-relevant data experience poverty, are with population-level statistics. follows: (1) Include deprivations indicators in measures. (2) Disaggregate indices associated information platform compare adults. (3) Analyse individual child explore gendered intra-household inequalities. (4) Construct an measure is linked measure, but contains additional across life course children. illustrates child-relevant they yield, using examples from previous research. It discusses strengths challenges each method conceptual, policy, technical perspectives, examines how for descriptive prescriptive purposes line Sustainable Development Goals.

Counting and Multidimensional Poverty Measurement
This paper proposes a new methodology for multidimensional poverty measurement consisting of an identification method ρk that extends the traditional intersection and union approaches, and a class of poverty measures Mα. Our identification step employs two forms of cutoff: one within each dimension to determine whether a person is deprived in that dimension, and a second across dimensions that ...
متن کاملThe measurement of multidimensional poverty
Many authors have insisted on the necessity of defining poverty as a multidimensional concept rather than relying on income or consumption expenditures per capita. Yet, not much has actually been done to include the various dimensions of deprivation into the practical definition and measurement of poverty. Existing attempts along that direction consist of aggregating various attributes into a s...
متن کاملUnderstandings and Misunderstandings of Multidimensional Poverty Measurement
Multidimensional measures provide an alternative lens through which poverty may be viewed and understood. In recent work we have attempted to offer a practical approach to identifying the poor and measuring aggregate poverty (Alkire and Foster 2011). As this is quite a departure from traditional unidimensional and multidimensional poverty measurement – particularly with respect to the identific...

This report addresses the challenges arising from a change in Mexico’s official poverty methodology from an income-only basis to a multidimensional basis that includes education, access to health services, access to social security, shelter characteristics, access to basic services, access to food, and level of social cohesion. The concept of poverty underlying this report is drawn from Amartya...
